As discussed in the post, wine investment funds are lightly regulated and most of the off-shore funds have no regulation at all. Several funds have gone out of business and have left their investors high and dry. This has included Heritage Fine Wines from Australia, Ascot Wine Management (AWM), an offshore fund run out of Geneva, and the Amphora Wine Fund. None of the funds have track records of 10 years or more. The top funds, which tend to be British, and have a culture which includes wine as a true investment, are reputable and well run. Be aware and search them out carefully.
