Selling a home is not something that most people enjoy. Current homeowners may not enjoy having to transform their house into something they’re not used to just to appeal to potential buyers. If the current homeowners are pressed for time, the stress and panic that comes with having two mortgages can be hard to deal with too. This is why most homeowners do everything they possibly can in order to sell their home quickly.

Home staging can help sell your home more quickly. This is a great way to maximize the space in your home while showing the potential of your home to prospective buyers.

Some homeowners dread staging because they assume it will be expensive, but this isn’t always true. There are plenty of ways that you can save money on home staging, and the following tips are a few suggestions to help you save your home while keeping money in your bank.

1. Declutter.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to stage your home is to declutter. Take some time to go through your home room by room and get rid of the items you no longer need. This will help you to maximize storage space.

Once you’ve purged items, find cute ways to store your belongings. For example, adding shelves can help you add more storage space to your home while also decluttering closets and other storage areas. You should also consider renting a storage area or ask a friend or relative if you can store some items at their home while your house is up for sale. This will allow you to declutter yet still keep certain items.

2. Choose the best flow.

Sometimes the way you use your home may not be the right option for potential buyers. When this happens, you need to determine the best flow of your home and make the necessary changes. For example, if you currently have a formal living room that goes unused, you may want to swap out your living room furniture for some office furniture and create a home office instead. This is much more practical today than a formal living room, so determine where changes can be made and do that.

3. Use your own furniture.

Go through your home and determine if you can use certain furniture in different areas. For example, if you have a cluttered living room, try and use some end tables in a bedroom in your house or put an extra couch in the finished basement for some extra entertainment space. Using your own furniture will allow you to stage your home without spending money on new furniture.

4. Make smart purchasing decisions.

Sometimes you will need to buy new furniture for a home staging, and that’s okay as long as you make smart purchases. For example, if you need to buy a new couch, make sure you buy a neutral color sofa instead of a flamboyant pattern that you’re your own style. Neutral items will fit better with the personal style and taste of potential buyers, and it will allow you to use this new sofa in your new home without being forced to only use it in one specific location. Plus, neutral furniture tends to be more timeless, so you’ll be able to keep and use this piece of furniture as your style changes over the years.

5. Repurpose older furniture.

If you need to buy new furniture for your home, there are ways you can do so without breaking the bank. For example, instead of buying items at full price, scour garage and yard sales in search of older pieces you can repurpose. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint or stain and some new hardware on an older piece can give it new life. When you do this, you’ll receive all the furniture you need to give your home that perfect look, and you won’t spend a fortune doing it. Then, if after you move you find that the current piece doesn’t fit in with your style or décor, you don’t have to worry about giving it away since it didn’t cost much.
