While you may spend a lot of time looking at the big picture in your business, you may be forgetting to look at the little details. There are so many small things that keep customers coming back to businesses that you may be overlooking.

Even the simple act of remembering a customer’s name can be an important step in keeping customers coming back, and ensuring they bring their friends. If you want to make sure you aren’t missing out, here are a few smaller details your business should be focusing on.

Know Your Customers

Know who your customers are and what they like. While this can be harder to do if you have hundreds of customers, it can also be the one thing that sets you apart from the next business they walk into.

Find a way to fit names with items or ideas. This can help you remember that Mary prefers the color pink in her home, so if she stops into your furniture store she’s going to be looking for something that goes with her pink shag carpet and mauve painted walls.

By name or not, always greet your customers the moment they walk in the door and let them know that you are there to help them. Not a brick and mortar store? You can still get to know your customers and what they like online and over the phone, and you can still convey a pleasant manner this way as well.

Be Different

Just being friendly and knowledgeable may be something different than they experience other places, but you want to give them even more. Share new ideas and new items with customers when they come around.

Give them something that your competitors aren’t giving them, whether that’s special sales or discounts, or friendly advice on home design or something else.

You also don’t want to hound your customers. In store, let them know you’re there and available, but don’t follow them around. Online, have them sign up for newsletters, but don’t send daily email blasts so they just start moving you to the spam folder.

Add A Little Something

Send thank you cards to repeat customers. Sometimes a simple card in the mail is enough to brighten someone’s day. Include a 10 percent off coupon and they’ll be running back to buy more.

When it comes to shipping, ensure you are using the best in packaging supplies so that your customer’s order arrives safe and in one piece. The use of custom printed boxes is also a great idea for branding, as it lets your customer know that it’s your package before they even open it.

Supply small things, in packages and at the store, like business cards, printed calendars, and even brochures, that customers can take with them to feel appreciated and to share with other potential customers.

While the big picture may be your sales, sales won’t happen without customers. That’s why it is important to keep an eye on the little things too!
